Where are the boxes made?

Every Mosepi pochade box is a product of meticulous craftsmanship, proudly handcrafted in Upstate New York. Our shop is small which allows us to carefully control the quality of our product to ensure our customers receive something they can appreciate and rely on for years to come.

Are your products carried in any stores?

Currently, our Pochade Boxes are exclusively accessible through our website. However, we are actively seeking partnerships with select fine art stores to offer our boxes in their physical locations in the near future.

How long will it take for my box to be built?

We have recently transitioned our approach to crafting and selling our boxes. Rather than building each box on demand, we will now exclusively offer boxes that are readily available in our current stock. This adjustment is designed to eliminate any unexpected delays in construction or shipping and to grant us ample time to construct each box, ensuring the highest quality.

What type of easel do I need to buy?

Our original pochade boxes are tailored for use with 'Italian style field easels' that can typically be found in many major art supply stores for approximately $50. If you require assistance locating a retailer, please feel free to reach out to us, and we will be more than happy to provide you with links to where they can be purchased.

Our latest design allows our pochade boxes to securely rest on camera tripod legs, while the mast, equipped with a 1/4-20 brass threaded insert, seamlessly connects to the tripod's quick-release plate. For compatibility with our boxes, the camera tripod's legs should have a diameter of approximately 1 inch.

'Italian style field easels' offer the advantage of being far cheaper, lightweight, and capable of accommodating larger canvases. However, camera tripods provide the distinct benefit of folding up into a much more compact form, making them the ideal choice when space is a precious commodity. This compactness is especially valuable for artists who are often on the move or working in confined areas.

How should I take care of my box?

Every Mosepi box is finished to ensure both aesthetics and functionality. The exterior of the boxes receives a penetrating coat of tung oil, while the palette area is enriched with two coats of tung oil for added durability. We strongly recommend applying a few additional coats of either tung or boiled linseed oil to the palette area before you begin your painting session.

To maintain the pristine appearance of your box, we advise wiping the entire box down with a pale oil such as tung or Danish oil once or twice a year. This simple step will help preserve the box's original luster and protect it from wear and tear.

When it's time to clean your palette after a painting session, start by scraping off any remaining paint with a palette knife following the direction of the grain. Then, wipe down the palette area with a paper towel or a rag and mineral spirits. Following that with linseed oil on a rag can help remove any lingering paint. Over time, you'll notice that your palette area will develop a smooth, almost glass-like patina, enhancing the character and functionality of your Mosepi box.

Can I put glass or plexiglass in my palette?

Of course! As long as it is 3/16th of an inch or less thick, it will fit. We would recommend using a very small amount of silicon in the corners to glue it into place. Plexiglass has the potential to get scratched up over time but you always run the risk of glass breaking if you drop your Mosepi. Make sure you use only a small amount of silicon with either to ensure it can be easily removed.

I forgot to clean my palette and now the paint is dried on. What should I do?

First, carefully remove any thick paint with a palette knife or razor blade. Then apply a liberal amount of paint stripper to the entire surface. After letting it sit for 10 or so minutes, use a palette knife to remove the loosened paint. Repeat this step as many times as needed. Some fine steel wool can be used to sand down any stubborn paint and please make sure you reapply a few coats of tung or boiled linseed to your newly cleaned palette.

I live outside of the US. How much will shipping cost?

For international shipping, we use DHL Express shipping which includes tracking right to your doorstep. We can also ship USPS International shipping which is far cheaper, but these packages will not come with tracking and we can not be held responsible for any lost parcels. If you would like to get an idea for what shipping may cost you, please visit click here.

When I try to checkout, my country is not listed in the drop down menu. What does this mean?

How can I stay updated on your latest products and promotions and updated inventory?

If your country is not listed, that means your shipping will cost more than the other countries listed. Please send a message to Info@mosepi.com and we can discuss the cost of shipping and what methods are available.
